At the “embedded world” exhibition in Nuremberg, duagon, in collaboration with Axelera AI, presented two pre-series products with integrated Metis™ AIPUs for high-performance AI applications at embedded level for the first time. AIPUs (Artificial Intelligence Processing Units) are highly optimized accelerator chips that leverages digital in-memory computing power to deliver the highest performance per watt for inference workloads (running AI models). Compared to common embedded processors, the AIPU modules are therefore significantly better at parallel processing of visual information, for example, while at the same time being more energy efficient.
For the exhibition, duagon has now equipped two pre-series products for embedded AI applications with Metis™ AIPU modules from Axelera: The high-performance Box PC BL74A and the CompactPCI card G506A with four M.2 slots for up to four AIPU modules. The huge interest at the booth showed that complex AI applications at embedded level are in high demand and will gain enormous relevance in the coming years – for example, to analyze camera images (e.g. from the track) in rolling stock.
The two duagon products are now entering the test phase for quality management and certification. Following successful completion, they will be available as standard products with embedded AI.
